Editor-in-Chief:
Richard Thiel
Editor-in-chief Richard Thiel has always felt that a special-interest magazine
should concentrate on one subject. In PMYs case: powerboats 24' and
larger. We do not, never have, and never will cover trailer boats, bass
boats, sailboats, or any other floating objects that arent big, powerful,
and expensive, Richard says. We rarely cover social events, never
sponsor sailboat races, and only mention the Americas Cup to poke fun at
it. But the fact that our focus is constant doesnt mean were afraid
to change...were constantly tweaking.
At the helm of PMY
since 1991, Richard brings to the magazine the experience of a life oriented
toward boats and the water. He is a certified scuba diver, once owned a diesel-engine
repair service, and over the years has owned 18 boats. His background in marine
journalism is just as impressive: He is a former technical editor and technical
director of Boating magazine, a former contributing editor for Yachting,
and a former editor-in-chief of Motorboat. Any additional qualities he
brings to his position are summed up in his own words: Extremely intelligent
and even better looking!
